While vs Whilst

While and whilst are synonyms in their conjunction forms, but there are some important differences to note. Whilst can only be a conjunction, whereas while can be both a conjunction, verb, and a noun. Whilst can be used interchangeably with while in UK English, but it sounds a bit old-fashioned or overly literary in American English.

The performer sings while drinking a glass of water.

2) Although
Examples:
While I understand your point, you can’t park your car on my lawn anymore.

3) As long as
Examples:
While you live under my roof, you will follow my rules about sharing pizza.
You need to focus on your grades while you are on probation.
While (verb)
To pass time. Used as a phrasal verb with away.
Examples:
She whiled away the afternoon without realizing it.
The hours whiled as they waited for their package.
While (noun)
For an unset amount of time. The amount of time is usually a bit lengthy.
Examples:
It’ll be a long while until I see you again.
She hasn’t played soccer in a while, but she’s still quite good.
Whilst (conjunction)
1) At the same time

The singer danced whilst belting out a tune.
Talking whilst chewing is quite rude.
2) Although
Examples:
Whilst the horses are like family to me, I cannot bring them on the plane with me.
I enjoy watching scary movies, whilst I abhor jump scares.
3) As long as
Examples:
Whilst you stay with me, we should study Dutch together.
Whilst he’s at the university, he can make new friends.
